For the whole of May they have a rotation of fantastic events that celebrate design in the city. We are so lucky to have the team at UNESCO Dundee shining a spotlight on local designers, design projects, processes and getting the public involved!

A bit about our process: Draff sheets are made by

A bit about our process:
Draff sheets are made by compressing the lovely spent grain or botanicals from whisky and gin production, under high press and heat 🗜️🌡️ We individually press each sheet using a custom made mild steel template at the same thickness as the desire sheet thickness. When we were experimenting with the press we used square templates at first but quickly realised the heat and pressure expanded it into something like a circle! That is why most of our draff furniture is round. The amount of required grain is reduced, there is less waste and the circular shape helps to achieve an even density throughout the sheets. Circles are cool. ⚪️

Pleased to finally share photos from a project which has been a highlight of 2022. Made with solid ash, ash plywood, Corian and olive linoleum. Our lovely client wanted this project to be more than a fitted kitchen. A piece of furniture than can be appreciated in its openness and simplicity, with detailed accents to fall in love with. What a project! Custom designed, fabricated and installed by us at draff studio.
